The Lock Puzzle
Here's a lock with code 1-2-3-4.
Try to open it.
Think about it: if the lock only had simple rules...
"When I see 1 → check. When I see 2 → check..."
...it would open when you press any correct digit!
But that's not how locks work.
The lock must remember which digit it's waiting for.
First it waits for 1. Then for 2. Then for 3. Then for 4.
That memory — knowing what to expect next — is called a STATE.
